The End of an Era Two drum icons have left us in the space of a month, and not the least. Joey Jordison on July 26, Charlie Watts on August 24. Two generations, two personalities and two universes that everything opposes, but a similar shock for thousands of drummers around the world. The End of an Era

Two drum icons have left us in the space of a month, and not the least. Joey Jordison on July 26, Charlie Watts on August 24. Two generations, two personalities and two universes that everything opposes, but a similar shock for thousands of drummers around the world.
On Charlie's side, his death is a symbol apart, whose repercussion goes beyond the world of rock. The death of a historic member of the Rolling Stones, the most popular band of all time and the last survivor of the 60's, marks above all the end of an era. Proof of this is this cover of Libération the day after the tragic announcement. It's not every day that a major daily newspaper dedicates its front page to a drummer...
One may not agree with the drumming of the man, light years away from a Keith Moon or a Bonham, but his dry drumming, his minimalism and his swing are inseparable ingredients of the "Stones" sound. Many fans from the 60's generation grew up and lived their lives alongside Charlie. They have seen the band through the decades, in its good and not so good times, and for some, it is a part of them that is going away, as a close friend of our editorial staff rightly expressed it. For more than 50 years, one of the most memorable moments of a Stones show was when Mick Jagger introduced the musicians. As the audience got closer to the drummer, they would anticipate the frontman by chanting "Charlie, Charlie! An emblem of the history of drums and rock'n'roll, which proves the attachment of people for this character so humble and discreet.
The Rolling Stones, accompanied by Steve Jordan, have decided to maintain the dates of their American tour, which will kick off on September 26 in St. Louis (Missouri).
A difficult choice and surely vital for its members. One thing is sure, we would not like to be in Jagger's shoes when we introduce the musicians on stage...

Keep on rolling, keep on drumming...
