Keeping up with time is one of the major challenges of our time. As we know, among the young (and not so young), the ability to concentrate is in free fall because of the numerous distractions offered by new technologies, the omnipresence of screens, incessant notifications, and in general, our exposure to an ever increasing offer of entertainment (streaming platforms, social networks...). In the music department, new albums are released by the hundreds every week and, regularly, the well-oiled marketing strategies of record companies and media (of which we are a part) promise the public the descendants of Prince, Led Zeppelin or Madonna, coming to sweep away the latest funk, rock or pop darling released the week before. Even us, as a "paper" magazine, how to survive in the time of TikTok and its videos of a few seconds that have become the norm? In addition to the mental well-being seriously challenged by this constant information overload, we can imagine the challenge that represents, for an artist or a young company, the construction of a long-term career, like the one of Dave Lombardo (Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, Testament...), a metal legend with 40 years in the business, or his counterpart Matt Greiner (August Burns Red), currently on the road to celebrate the 20th anniversary of his band (both interviewed in this issue). Or the epic story of the Gretsch company, which has just blown out its 140 candles! Will our future societies offer the chance to the new groove ambassadors born in 2023 to know a similar destiny? Answer in 20, 40 or 140 years... In the meantime, drummer friends, never give up on your goals, keep creating, exploring and having fun!
