Hello to you, Guitar Xtremists! The guitar odyssey is still going strong, and lately we've had a lot of material to work with, which sometimes means making tough choices when it comes to building our summary and shaping our cover. Two albums have been on our minds these past few weeks. First of all, there is Billy F. Gibbons' Hardware, the logical continuation of a breathless sonic exploration, at the crossroads of blues, tex-mex music and rock'n'roll. Hello to you, Guitar Xtremists!
The guitar odyssey continues apace, and lately we've had a lot to work with, which sometimes means making some Cornelian choices when building our summary and shaping our cover. Two albums have been on our minds these past few weeks. First of all, there is Billy F. Gibbons' Hardware, the logical continuation of a breathless sonic exploration, at the crossroads of blues, tex-mex music and rock'n'roll. This time, ZZ Top's chief engineer went to find his inspiration under the giant cacti of the Mojave Desert, a no man's land where only coyotes and rattlesnakes survive and where the souls of those who lost their lives wander. Secondly, let's talk about Werewolves of Portland by our friend Paul Gilbert, eighth piece of an instrumental saga started in 2006, ultimate work of a stakhanovist craftsman who continues to live his dream like an eternal teenager, capable of questioning himself in order to get out of his comfort zone, ignoring his handicap and having fun despite everything. Shred, therefore, again and again, but also an absolute mastery of the slide and the melody, within a singular and playful universe which does not resemble any other. So we refused to choose and we dedicate our cover to both of them. At the last moment, we found it unfair not to honor Lari Basilio, with whom we had very nice exchanges these last months. A complete artist and accomplished virtuoso, the Brazilian has put herself in pole position to become one of tomorrow's stars with Far More, an instrumental gem to be placed somewhere between your Eric Johnson and Andy Timmons albums.
Finally, we did a first live with NeoGeoFanatic on the magazine's Facebook page, to let you discover Neural DSP's Quad Cortex in preview, and we plan to organize many more. Feel free to write to us on the networks or by email, to give us your ideas and suggestions for the future.
Excellent reading to all of you!
