The world is getting out of its torpor and is slowly getting back to a semblance of normal rhythm and even if nothing is fully acquired yet, the return of the concerts seems to be well underway for the fall, with notably the coming to Europe (and more particularly to France) of the man with the steel back beat, Mister Cory Wong, aka the new Jimmy Nolen, aka the most lightning right hand of Minneapolis. See you at La Cigale on Saturday October 9th. We dedicate our cover to this exceptional guitarist who has been rising to the top since the advent of Vulfpeck and The Fearless Flyers. Now he's breaking free with the Wongnotes, a band of hitmen he's tailored to play his music, including legendary New Power Generation groover Sonny T. on bass. Will Wong be the next prophet of the six-string? Does he have what it takes to embody a new kind of guitar hero (less caricatured and arrogant) and restore the guitar's image as the coolest instrument in the world? Time will tell, but we at Guitar Xtreme Magazine are confident that his talent, enthusiasm, energy and wild ambition (driven solely by his irrational love of music) will allow him to accomplish great things in the years to come. As our American friends say, "only the sky is the limit", and it may not be long before the phenomenal funk player reaches the stratosphere (both literally and figuratively, as Fender will be announcing something very big for him soon).
