Bass & Drums Camp

Published the 02/06/22
What is the Bass&Drums Camp?
A rock band is of course an outstanding guitarist, a charismatic leader, but above all a rhythm section, a bass/drum, made of concrete to give the power and the necessary foundation to the expressiveness of the soloists. We all have in mind the percussive grooves of Jones and Bonham, the infallible foundation of Taylor and Deacon or the power of Paice and Glover.
These are the rhythms (and many others!) that have shaped the history of ROCK, the pairings that have made thousands of fans headbang, and that have laid the foundations of an immortal style.
Definitely, the bass and the drums are two instruments that cannot be separated from each other. Both must work in symbiosis, to provide that powerful groove that is fundamental to the balance of a band.
It is with this idea in mind, that this workshop was conceived.
With the years of experience accumulated on stage and in the studio, we have come to the conclusion that working on one's instrument alone is certainly necessary to acquire a good level, but that the real work of a bassist and a drummer begins when they play together. This is often where the real questions arise and where unfortunately few precise and efficient answers are given.
Based on our collective experience, we have chosen to focus this workshop specifically on this teamwork, to give the necessary keys to the understanding and cohesion of this duo.
Indeed, a "welded" rhythm section requires a bundle of technical and musical knowledge, but also and above all an increased ability to listen.
During these two days, we will explain to you how to work together, to get to know the particularities of each instrument, the difficulties encountered, and the expectations of each.
The idea is to use concrete examples from the mythical rhythms of the style to acquire vocabulary, to share our live and studio experience and our "secret formulas" of the bass/bat, but also, and above all, to answer your questions to help you progress.
The workshop :
Over two days, near Nantes, the principle is to get into the bass/drum work.
There will of course be each day a phase of work dedicated to the instrument with the various musicians involved, and of course, sessions of work in pairs to apply the knowledge.
Each evening, a jam will be organized in a dedicated place in the school and will also be the moment to exchange with the speakers and the participants of the course.
